Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how TrueSize ("we", "our", or "the service") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the TrueSize website (truesize.net), the TrueSize mobile applications for iOS and Android (the "apps"), and the TrueSize Flag Finder browser extension. By using the website, the apps, or the extension you accept the practices described here.

TrueSize does not require an account, and we never ask you to sign in or provide your name, email address, or other contact details to use the map.

Information We Collect

TrueSize itself (the developer) collects almost no data: there is no account, and the apps run no analytics of our own. Most data is handled either by Google (for advertising) or by the map/API providers that serve your requests — each an independent controller under its own policy. The sections below separate what the developer, Google, and those providers each handle.

The mobile apps

The apps request no location permission and do not access your GPS, contacts, photos (except a photo you explicitly pick for a custom flag), or files outside what you choose to import. The maps, regions, flags, and quiz content are served from our content delivery and boundary APIs.

Advertising-related collection in the apps comes from Google AdMob, which we use to show ads. Depending on your consent and other applicable privacy signals (see Advertising, Consent & Tracking below), the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect:

• Identifiers — the device advertising identifier (Apple IDFA on iOS, Google Advertising ID on Android) and related device identifiers.
• Approximate location — a coarse, city/region-level location inferred from your IP address by Google's ad systems. The apps themselves never read precise device location.
• Advertising & product interaction data — which ads were shown, tapped, or measured, and basic app-interaction signals used to deliver and measure ads.
• Diagnostic data — crash logs and performance data used to keep the ad SDK working correctly.

The website

When you use truesize.net we (and our hosting, analytics, and ad providers) may automatically collect:

• Usage data — features used, regions selected, and session activity.
• Device & log data — browser type, operating system, device identifiers, IP address, access times, and referring pages.

The website uses these services:

• Google Analytics 4 measures how the site is used: pages viewed, the map features used (for example searches, regions added or moved, timeline, games, sharing, and exports), how long a visit lasts and where it ends, approximate location (country and city), device, browser, and the referring site. It uses first-party cookies to recognize a returning browser. Search text typed into the map search may be recorded in a shortened, lower-case form so we can see which places people look for but cannot find. We do not send names, e-mail addresses, uploaded files, or the notes of community submissions to Google Analytics.
• Microsoft Clarity records how pages are used (clicks, scrolling, and pointer movement) as session replays and heatmaps, so we can improve the interface. Clarity masks sensitive input by default.
• Venatus (Prosper), our advertising partner, serves and measures ads on the website and, where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland), asks for your consent.

Usage is reported in aggregate to understand which features to improve. We do not use analytics data to identify you.

The browser extension

The TrueSize Flag Finder extension for Chrome and Edge identifies flags in images you choose: an image you right-click, paste, drop, or open from a file, or an area of the current tab you select with Pick from screen.

• Your images are processed on your computer and never uploaded. The image, and any screenshot of the tab, stays inside the extension and is not sent to us or to anyone else.
• The extension downloads the public flag database and flag pictures from truesize.net, the same files the website uses. These requests carry nothing about your images; like any web request, they show your IP address to our hosting provider.
• The extension has no analytics, no ads, and no accounts, and it does not sell or share any data. It reads a page only when you use the extension on that page (the right-click menu or the toolbar button), and only to get the image you chose.
• It keeps the downloaded flag database and your last results in the browser's extension storage. Removing the extension deletes them.
• Links such as Show on TrueSize open truesize.net, where the website practices above apply. These links carry a tag that tells our analytics the visit came from the extension.

Information stored only on your device

Your map configuration is stored locally and is never uploaded to us:

• Map state, preferences, and settings — selected regions, positions, rotations, colors, map style, and options (in the app's on-device storage, or your browser's local storage on the web).
• Imports — GeoJSON/TopoJSON you import from a file, URL, or pasted text is processed on your device only. We do not receive it.
• Shareable URLs — on the web, map state may be encoded into a link you choose to share.

How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the service;
• Display and measure advertising (see below);
• Understand aggregate usage and optimize performance; and
• Diagnose crashes and technical problems.

Advertising, Consent & Tracking

The apps monetize through Google AdMob. Two separate platform privacy mechanisms apply:

• Consent (UMP). Google's User Messaging Platform presents a consent form where required (for example the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, and applicable U.S. states) before the first ad request. We initialize the ad SDK only when UMP reports that ads may be requested.
• App Tracking Transparency (iOS). Separately, on iOS Apple shows its own tracking prompt, which governs access to the device advertising identifier (IDFA). Your consent and tracking choices together influence how personalized the ads are: where you allow both, ads may be personalized; where you don't, Google limits how your data is used and generally serves less-personalized or contextual ads. Ads may still be shown either way — declining tracking does not by itself guarantee non-personalized ads, as Google determines this from all applicable signals.
• Changing or withdrawing consent. Where consent applies, a "Privacy choices" option appears in the app's navigation drawer so you can review or withdraw your consent at any time. On iOS you can also change tracking under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking; on Android you can reset or delete your Advertising ID in system settings.

Map Data & API Providers

We load map tiles, basemaps, boundary geometry, and imagery from third-party providers, including OpenStreetMap / OpenFreeMap, satellite imagery providers, and boundary API (mapiapi.com). When your device requests tiles or geometry, your IP address and request are visible to those providers and handled under their own privacy policies.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information for money. However, serving personalized ads may be treated as "sharing" (targeted advertising) or a "sale" under some U.S. state privacy laws; you can opt out at any time through "Privacy choices" in the app or your device's tracking/advertising settings. Information is shared only with:

• Google (AdMob/UMP) for serving and measuring ads, subject to your consent;
• Google (Analytics) and Microsoft (Clarity) for measuring how the website is used;
• Venatus for serving and measuring ads on the website;
• Map/API and hosting providers that deliver the tiles, geometry, and pages you request; and
• Authorities, where disclosure is required by law or to protect our rights and safety.

Data Retention

• On-device data (map state, settings, imports) stays on your device until you clear it, and can be removed at any time by clearing app storage or browser data, or by uninstalling the app.
• Website analytics data in Google Analytics is kept for 14 months at the event level; Microsoft Clarity data is kept under Microsoft's policy.
• Advertising and log data collected by Google and our providers is retained under their respective policies.

Children's Privacy

TrueSize is a general-audience service; on Google Play the app is distributed targeting adults 18 and over, and it is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided such information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your Rights & Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your information, and to opt out of certain processing. You can:

• Withdraw or change ad consent via "Privacy choices" in the app (or your device's tracking/advertising settings);
• Block website analytics with Google's Analytics opt-out add-on, your browser's tracking protection, or by clearing or blocking cookies for truesize.net (see also the Microsoft Privacy Statement for Clarity);
• Delete developer-/device-controlled information — map state, settings, and imports — yourself by clearing app storage or browser data, or by uninstalling. We never receive this data, so there is nothing on our side to delete; and
• For Google-controlled advertising records, withdraw consent or reset your advertising ID as above and use Google's own tools (see Google's Privacy Policy). For any other request, contact us (see Contact); because we keep no accounts, include enough detail (such as the approximate time and platform) for us to help.

Data Security

We use reasonable measures to protect information, including HTTPS/TLS in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

International Users

TrueSize is operated globally. If you use the service from outside your country of residence, your information may be processed in other countries with different privacy laws.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
